Joshua Kessler : Frame Rate

About the Exhibit
Dick Waller’s ArtPlace is proud to welcome New York based portrait and video photographer Joshua Kessler as a part of the 2018 FotoFocus Biennial Photography event this October.   Frame Rate will open Friday, September 28th from 6-9pm at 130 West Court Street in downtown Cincinnati and run through November 17th.
Frame Rate is a meditation on the pure joy of experiencing light, shadow and shape, while commenting on the way we consume imagery today, whether it be a single framed photograph, an Instagram-style grid, the liquid flow of a Facebook feed or snappy micro videos. The essential DNA of image making has stayed the same but the volume and speed with which we consume it has changed.
This series grew out of the desire to break down the essence of Mr. Kessler’s work—whether still or motion—into abstract color and shape. It is, in the end, a playful artistic workout in the visual gym.

Support for this FotoFocus Biennial 2018 exhibition was provided by FotoFocus.
FotoFocus Biennial 2018 spans over 80 museums, galleries, and universities across Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Columbus, and Dayton, Ohio; and features over 250 artists, curators, and educators. Each Biennial is structured around a unifying theme; for 2018 that theme is Open Archive.
Open Archive emphasizes the centrality of photography and lens-based art to modernism, and it examines our fundamental need to preserve photographs and to tell stories through their collection, organization, and interpretation.
